Amazon’s Kindle Wireless Reading Device Big Hit!
4 January 2008Amazon’s New Wireless Kindle Reading Device which debuted in November of last year was a big sell out. They are still in demand now, after Christmas. If you are wanting one, you should order now to get your name on the list as more of the wireless reading devices become available. Orders are being prioritized on a first come, first served basis.
There are more than 90,000 titles for the Kindle. Audiobooks, newspapers (like the Wall Street Journal), magazines and blogs are also viewable on the device. Also, I’m sure there will be a lot of public domain books avaiable for low cost (like $0.99 to free).
The Kindle reader looks to be a real money (and storage) saver as many titles are less than half the cost of the paper version and the Kindle is able to store a lot of titles.
Example: Our house reads well over 50 books per year, so 50 x $20 each (low) adds up to $1,000 per year. With New York Times Best Sellers and new releases going for $9.99 each on the Kindle, thats a $500 per year savings. Enough to cover the initial $399 cost. A week or so ago my wife took three big boxes of books to Half Price Books to sell to them to relieve her overstuffed bookcase. They gave her $17.00 for the titles they wanted and did keep the others to give away so she didn’t have to take them elsewhere.
I’m curious to hear how the Kindle hit Amazon’s bottom line this last holiday quarter. AMZN - Amazon, Inc. should report earnings near the end of January.
The Kindle has wireless access, a fabulous screen, ergonomic design, 10.3 ounce weight, search features, qwerty keyboard, bookmarks and annotation, built-in dictionary, wireless wikipedia access, adjustable text size, and a long battery life.
So, are one or more Kindles on your list of must haves? Check out the full list of features and specifications here.
