Minimize Stress to Maximize Returns

3 January 2008

Here are a few ways to minimize the stress in your trading life.

  1. Only make winning trades!
  2. Never trade when the markets are open!
  3. Ah, I’m just kidding…

Now for the real list.

  1. Learn to meditate. - I’m not really interested but I know a few people that enjoy it. Give it a try!
  2. Exercise regularly - This is what I do, but not for long periods. I like to get up from the desk and go for several walks a day or just outside for some fresh air. So release that stress with a physical activity you enjoy!
  3. Make strategies and set goals - Make plans and follow them, setting realistic goals.
  4. Review your trades - Learn from your mistakes. Learn from your successes. Try to recreate those successes and cut losses quickly. Cutting losses quickly really helps the stress management and plays a big part in good portfolio management.
