GM Stock Loses Big Today
9 October 2008Tody GM - General Motors Corporation lost -$2.15 (-31.11%) to close at $4.76. GM’s all-time high was $74.44 set back in May of 2000. What a change!
Ford Stock - Now Down 7 Days In A Row
9 October 2008F- Ford Motor Company had it’s seventh straight down day in a row, losing 50% of its already depressed value i te last 5 days. Its shares lost -21.80% just today.
S&P 500 Decline Similar to DJIA
9 October 2008The S&P 500 set similar closing and intrady highs as the DJIA did. One year ago today the S&p 500 had an all-time closing high of 1,565.15 and went on to an all-time high of 1,576.09 on 10/11/2007. Today (10/8/08) the S&P 500 index closed at 909.92. It is now down -41.86% in the last 12 months. What does this mean. There was nowhere to hide in US indices.
DJIA Has Now Been In Decline for One (1) Year
9 October 2008It was one year ago today (10/9/2007) that the DOW set an all-time closing high of 14,164.13. Today the ^DJI closed at 8,579.19 and is now down -39.43% from that all-time closing high.
The DOW’s all-time, intraday high on occurred two days later on October 11, 2007 when it hit 14,279.96. The DJI index has now been in a decline for 1 year.
Discount Stocks?
9 October 2008After today’s routing, I’d say we are at about a 33% discount on most stocks and we have to be on the verge of a major reversal. We have now had 6 down days with investors, funds and companies gathering cash. They will eventually put it back to work. You’d better be adding as the market falls or be able to put your cash to work in an instant or you will miss the virtual boat. Not that I think that things will turn around on a dime or anything. But, looking at my favorite mutual fund, PVADX, it lost 7.01% just today. Somehow, confidence in banking / money / stocks / companies as a whole needs to make a comeback. How does one accomplish that… -Harvey
